Locomotion, aka: The Boat

Locomotion is an Express 34, hull #1, launched in 1987. The 34 is the last of the Express series, designed by legendary naval architect, Carl Schumacher. Like the 27 and the 37 before it, the Express 34 was designed for the waters on San Francisco Bay and the very windy and rough waters of the north Pacific and Monterey Bay. Although built light and fast, these have proven to be incredibly tough and forgiving boats. And, like all of Carl's boats, they are a joy to sail, and an all round steady performer.

In Puget Sound, we have been competitive in all wind conditions, and when we don't do anything too stupid, we sail to our rating of 102, much to the displeasure of our normal fleet.

The hull in foam cored with the inner and outer and inner skins laid up with vinylester resin. Secondary bonding of bulkheads and furniture is all epoxy. Auxiliary power is a Yanmar 2GM20F, the same 16 horsepower engine that is in the Express 37.

Although primarily designed as a race boat, below it is amazingly spacious and well thought-out with 6' headroom, remarkable in only 34 feet!
